Awesome Fact #2 - Life before birth, Life After Death

*This post is a part of a series called Awesome Facts, which gives interesting, often unknown information about beliefs from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Do you ever watch Home Improvement shows?

The hosts, with absolute ease and without any chaos whatsoever, take trashy homes and transform them into modern miracles! How amazing! How fun!

HA!

We've bought two Fixer-Upper homes in a row (one in Pittsburgh during medical school, second in Connecticut for residency) and I'll tell you right now-- everything takes 20x longer and costs 10x as much as it should!!

All this is to say that I've been busy. I swore off my cookies and cakes until we finish all the projects which stalled out at the 'two-thirds finished' stage. Which is all of them.

I'll do a post with some house Before's and After's sometime soon. Stay tuned!

Have you recently read the story of Jesus's birth? There is so much rich, incredible detail about how he would be born (to a virgin), where he would be born (Bethlehem), and of his lineage. From the stars in the sky to the Savior in the stall; those with access to the scriptures knew an incredible amount of prophecy, all of which came true.

In this same way but on a different subject, God has given us many details about life before birth, and life after death.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches that individuals like you and I lived before birth, as spirits. Your spirit had gender and personality-- YOUR personality! You existed as yourself, before you were born.

After you die, like a hand being taken from a glove, your spirit, (which is, in essence, YOU) will flee your body and continue. Death is not a wall, but a door.

And then...what?

There was a father in the Book of Mormon whose son asked him this same question-- what happens after I die?

In summary, the father (Alma the Younger) taught his son that eventually all will be resurrected. The spirit and the body will again be perfectly united.

But between death and resurrection, there is a space.

During that time of waiting, those spirits who loved the Lord during life and obeyed His teachings will have rest, peace, and happiness.

Those who chased evil and who rebelled against the Lord will have torment, agony, and suffering.

But after a period of time, the body and the spirit will again be reunited in a glorious resurrection, offered to every person as a gift from our Savior Jesus Christ, who broke the bands of death for all.

After that comes the final judgment, when a person's life will be examined by God and their final home determined. The righteous with God, all others without Him.

Because of Jesus Christ, birth is not the beginning and death is not the end!

Puffins, Puzzles, and Poo Emoji Cookies

I recently overheard my husband on the phone, chatting with his mom, Debbie.

Joe: "Jenna is making a chocolate fudge cake."
Debbie: "What's the occasion?"
Joe: "Oh, you know. Just scratching the itch."

Guys, I've never heard a more accurate description of baking.

I bake because I MUST! SCRATCH! THE! ITCH!

And yeah, the blog is waaaay behind here. I'm pretty good about updating my Facebook page and my YouTube channel, but the blog gets left behind.

Sorry.

Anyway, I asked my nephews what sort of cookies they'd like me to bring when we visited Alaska. Here's the designs that made the final cut.

Enjoy!

First up is a cookie puzzle. Self-explanatory, pretty cool concept.

One of my nephews asked for puffin cookies:

And (I apologize in advance) my other nephew asked for Poo Emoji cookies.

Normally I would do the eyes like you find on your emoji keyboard, but I was short on time.

I toggle between thinking these are gross and thinking that they're hilarious. I guess I'm actually about eight years old on the inside.

Next are some marble cookies, made from leftover puzzle pieces:

And last, my trademark Sprinkle Bombs! The inspiration behind Sprinkle Bombs is that the birthday child gets their own special, sprinkle-filled cookie to open on their birthday while everyone else just gets a regular cookie. Sort of like blowing out candles on a cake.

Go check out my YouTube channel if you want to see the rest!

It's almost midnight and I've got to run. I've got a busy day tomorrow teaching the children's Sunday School class at church.

Catch you later!
