Chocolate Drips and Gold Stars: A Last Cake for Jo Ann

Several years ago, the president of the women's organization at church handed me a little slip of paper.

It was my list of visiting sisters; the women who I would visit and serve.

One of those unfamiliar names was Jo Ann.

I texted her to say hello and then brought over a pan of cinnamon rolls. I couldn't figure out which apartment in the building was hers, but I found her mailbox and hung the rolls there.

We texted a little back and forth but I never got to meet her face-to-face.

A few months later, however, Jo Ann came to church and the rest is history. She became one of my best and dearest friends.

Jo Ann has this fairytale ability to spin the straw of life into gold. She's one of the most positive and happiest people I've ever known, not because life has been easy, but because she refuses to let anything keep her down.

This is the third cake I've made her, but sadly it is likely also the last. She'll be moving this summer and I'm going to miss her like crazy. The wonderful thing about a true friend, however, is that they become a part of you.

So really, I guess it doesn't matter if we live a continent apart. We both have a home in each other's hearts.

Whenever possible, I add a dinosaur :)
